About us

Welcome to Amber Bonarius Play Therapy, where I specialize in the transformative power of play therapy for children between the ages of 4 and 13. I’m passionate about helping young individuals navigate life’s challenges and achieve emotional well-being through this unique therapeutic approach.

What is Play Therapy?

Play therapy is a gentle and effective form of psychotherapy designed specifically for children between the ages of 4 and 13. It harnesses the power of play and creative expression as a means of communication and healing. For children, play is not just a pastime; it’s their natural language, and toys are their words.

Children do not have the verbal capacity to communicate in the same way adults do. Instead, they use play as their primary mode of expression. Through play, they can convey their thoughts, emotions, and experiences, often without needing to find the right words. Toys become their tools for storytelling and self-expression, allowing them to process and work through complex feelings, conflicts, and challenges.

At Amber Bonarius Play Therapy, we recognize that play is the medium through which children explore their inner world, make sense of their experiences, and develop essential life skills. Play therapy provides a safe and supportive environment where children can engage in this natural form of communication, fostering personal growth and emotional well-being.

In play therapy, I work alongside your child, using toys, art, and creative activities to facilitate their journey towards healing and self-discovery. It’s a collaborative process that respects the unique way children communicate and allows them to express themselves fully and authentically.

How Can Play Therapy Help?

Play therapy offers a diverse range of benefits for children in this age group. It can help with:

Emotional Expression: Play therapy provides a non-verbal avenue for children to express complex feelings and emotions.

Communication Skills: It enhances communication, promoting healthier interactions with others.

Coping Strategies: Children learn effective coping mechanisms to manage stress and life’s challenges.

Self-Esteem: Play therapy nurtures self-esteem and self-worth, fostering a positive self-image.

Healing from Trauma: It aids in processing and healing from past traumas or difficult experiences.
